Our dojo hosts a variety of special seminars in the course of a typical year. Some seminars are limited to members of the dojo or the ryu, while others are open to the general public. Depending on circumstances, there may or may not be registration fees, but spectators are usually welcome at no charge. March 16 and 17, 2019: Itten Dojo hosts the 2019 Taikai of the Yamate-ryu, with Maren Sensei instructing.
April 17, 2019: Yamate-ryu Keiko with Bryan Musicar Sensei, dojocho of Daiseki Dojo in Palatine, Illinois. A special class from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m., of particular interest to the women in the dojo (but of great value to everyone): How to train in such a way as to best preserve your body for the long term. These tips were given to Mr. Musicar by Barbara Rorschach, the all-time highest-ranked woman in Yamate-ryu.
April 20, 2019: Itto Tenshin-ryu Mini-seminar with Joseph Simms Sensei. The kihon kumitachi assigned for kenjutsu students testing for the mudansha grades of chukyu and jokyu are adapted from the Hyaku-happon (108) Kumitachi, and are designed to insure junior deshi of the ryu develop strong fundamentals and the ability to cover a lot of mat space using proper tai-sabaki. Simms Sensei will lead training from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
September 13, 14, and 15, 2019: The Ono-ha Itto-ryu Kenjutsu (Sokaku-den) Summer Intensive with Uhler Sensei and Hashimoto Sensei on Friday and Saturday, and a comparative look at three spearate lines of aikijujutsu/aikijutsu on Sunday. Details available here.
November 2 and 3, 2019: Itten Dojo hosts the 2019 Taikai of the Itto Tenshin-ryu, with Rajguru Sensei instructing. Details to be announced.
